Gin and juice Tuesday with Snoop

COVID-19 ‘The Rona Era”

Yesterday the rain came down heavy. I opted not to run. If it was a light drizzle I would have but not when it’s a hard rain. I did feel off yesterday without running. I’m also aware that my period is coming soon and that may add to my blah mode as well.

Today is a new day. There is overcast and it’s dull looking out. It’s not raining and I’m going to run. The question is where? Places that I would normally run, Somerville and Cambridge now require everyone to wear a mask when outside. If you don’t you will be fined. This is where things are going. Note to self, I need to order more mask, so I can rotate when I run.

I decided to run on Deer Island in Winthrop. It’s been a while since I ran that way. I knew the island would be closed to cars and I would have to park a mile away from the island, which is completely fine.

As I ran along the water the waves were crashing on the rocks and the seagulls had a field day with the waves. Or maybe they were fighting the wind or both. I’m not sure.

For 4.58 miles of my run I passed two runners and three walkers. Really the mornings are physical distance quiet. I had a bit of wind resistance training myself. For me running is always better when I can smell the ocean and hear the sounds of the water. Besides the workers going into the water treatment facility, I really had the whole island to myself while running.

There was the waves and hi’s from runners/walkers. I did get a couple of smiles. It seemed like smiles to me. That’s what I’m going with.

Fuel for Thought: In Winthrop, I had my face covering. I was aware of this black face running in a white community. There was an article that came out about Ahmaud Arbery. He was jogging in a white suburan neighborhood in Georgia and was killed because people thought he was a burglar.

This is reality that I know can happen. It was true before the Rona, it is true during the Rona, and it will be true after the Rona. Wearing a mask only adds to the discomfort and safety issues of being black.

Thinking about all of this when Gin and juice popped on my Pandora. The memories and the joys. After that all the old school rap classics kept playing. I resumed my rhythms and stride to Cali style gangta rap.
