COVID-19- The Rona Era

Yet another 10k a.m humpday. This Wednesday morning it feels like Fall. It’s 34 degrees out and my hands are frozen. The plan was…….run early because I wanted to get an oil change. Side note. I have this thing, issue about dying while driving. I always want to make sure my car is taken care of and doesn’t have any mechanical issues. On my car the “ maintenance required soon” light came on. I read the manual and I have gone past my 5,000 miles for an oil change. I was 400 miles over. Of course this freaked me out.

With the new COVID guidelines, the mechanic that I go to was still open because they are essential. Now there are a series of phone calls, they will come out, stay in the car, they call, you can drive into the working bay, leave, they call, pay over the phone, and then get your car. It’s a new thing. Their hours are from 7-3 M-F. I wanted to get there at 7a.m. on the dot.

The running plan was to park at MIT and run along the Charles River Esplanade. That would give me 6 miles. I was slower than normal to drive to MIT. Since the weather was nice, everyone was out early in the morning. When I checked my watch it was 7:10a.m and I had to be at the auto shop. Instead of 10k I ran 4.64 miles. That is still a win in my book.

Balancing the Rona and Running.
