5k Friday

5k Friday

COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”

It’s Friday and the start of Boston Marathon weekend celebration and events. This morning it was a struggle to get out of bed. My plan was to get up at 5:30a.m. but I didn’t want to run in the darkness and I wanted to stay in bed. This is what happens when I go out on a school night. :). Last night from 4-6pm, BGR Boston had a Happy Hour celebration send off get together for the ladies running the Chicago and Boston marathon.

I didn’t show up until 6:30pm and stayed until 9pm. Some chickens, red wine, laughing, talking, pictures, and listening to good music later, I was home.

My original plan was to run a 10k this morning. That didn’t happen since I finally left the house at 6:55 a.m. A 5k was totally doable. It was warm and the sun was coming up. I ran along the waterfront this morning for the 5k run.

The unexpected surprise this morning was seeing the gang of runners. Around 7 ish, there were at least 15 of these young white runners, running towards me. I assume they are in a running group of sorts.

The image: a solo black woman running, minding her business, then a sea of white runners were coming at her. Is that scary? Should I be the one to call the police for my safety? What would the situation be if the roles were reversed. A solo white female runner and a group( gang) of black runners coming towards her? This was my brief thought when this happen. I wonder if I look like a runner to them?

My thought while we passed each other. This was my first run in my neighborhood since coming back from State #47. All the runners were out as well as the fall colors and Halloween decorations.

Overall it was a good morning run. I may have struggled this morning but I made miles happen and that is all that matters.
