Firecracker 4th of July Run

Firecracker 4th of July Run

COVID-19, “The Rona Era”

I think this is our fifth year, or maybe it’s our 6th year of having the BGR Boston Firecracker run on Castle Island. Last year because of COVID, we did a social distance run on the Island. We had maybe 5 to 6 people. This year, we had Brandy from Brandy Fitness join us and give us a pre runners workout. Jeff from Black Men Run joined us too. We had a good turn out. Normally we run at 6 a.m. because we have activities and outings on the forth.

This year we started our run at 8a.m., which seemed late to me. This also gave me time for a walk before all the ladies showed up. I walked around the island which is 2.07 miles. When they came, I walked with BMR’s Jeff for another 2.07 miles. This groin annoyance is still here and I’m not cleared to run yet.

After the pre workout, Jeff and I walked the island. It was perfect weather for running/walking. Since I was not running, I was told it was humid and muggy AF.

By the time we got, I found out the USS Constitution was going to come by. She’s 224 years old. That would be my 4th of July celebration. Many of us stayed to see her. Soon many other folks came out to see her too. The park rangers were passing out US flags, there was a DJ playing 4th music, people had lawn chairs out. I learned this was an annual ritual thing. Who knew?

Not only did I get a 4 mile walk in, meet some new people, hung out with my BGR crew, I also saw the USS Constitution. Not a bad way to start the fourth
