New Pacer in Town

New Pacer in Town

COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”

Today is my Hearbreakrun Pacer debut. Last Tuesday I was in Iowa so we had to postpone. I’ve never been a pacer before, this is new territory. I would be a pacer for team Red, which I love. Now there are 3 pacers for this group. Actually this is perfect. I can be in the middle of the pacer crew. And I love team Red and have been with them for years.

I showed up at 6:00a.m. ready to go, because that’s when Pacers should be there. Well, guess what? I didn’t see anybody. Around 6:04,6:05, the pacers slowly started to show. I helped set up and then we had a brief meeting. I knew this was going to be a short workout. 1-1000 at 10k pace and two 200s with two minute breaks in between and that was it.

Bad weather reduced the size of team red. In the end we had one person, Jill in our group. This was good practice for me of keeping in the middle. Next week will be a challenge. Jordan, the lead Red will be gone and it will be up to me to lead the group.

For now, it was good and fun. I was asked if I was an official pacer and got mad love for it. As I’ve learned it’s about progress not perfection.
