Track Tuesday : timing the miles
ERA of………..WTF…………resistance and joy
It's dark now in the morning. The early morning light to get up and run is gone. Fall starts next week, and we're getting a preview of it.
This week, I got thrown off my game. We were running for 36 minutes straight. I thought there was an error because there were no breaks — but it's about continuous running and building the recovery strength to get right back into it.
There was a bit of a kerfuffle on my part. In 6-minute chunks, we had to start at marathon pace, then tempo pace, rest pace, 10k pace, 5k pace, and back again. In my track-head way of thinking, I just made sure to change speed every two minutes. That made sense to me. What I didn't do properly was meet with Team Red beforehand to discuss our plan — MB made sure to recap that point to me once we were done. The folks in the back couldn't hear me or see me holding my hands up.
Adding insult to injury, all the technology decided not to work: my watch, my interval timer, my phone stopwatch. Not today, Satan. Jill was having the same issue too.
I had to get off the track twice for water because it got humid. I didn't communicate with Team Red because, honestly, I would've liked to fall back and not be the lead. But my motivation was the upcoming half marathon I had to run on Sunday — my mileage isn't where it should be, and this got me going. I even carb-loaded and hydrated a bit beforehand. Still tired, though.
Besides the mishap, it wasn't bad. I know what to do better next week.
