Thursday surprise
COVID-19 ‘The Rona Era”
I didn’t have the energy, I wasn’t in the mood for my 10k a.m. humpday run. What had happened was……… My godson had his high school graduation zoom celebration last from 5-8pm. Family and friends from across the country and overseas joined the celebration. Every hour we gave a toast to the wonderful graduate. Somehow a bottle and a half of wine disappeared. After that I was zoom chatting with friends until 1a.m. Wednesday morning. My body didn’t care and she was up by 5:30a.m. I had to force her back to sleep because I don’t function well with four hours of sleep.
To add to my own disappointment. Today is Global Running Day. Perfect for running a 10k on this extra special Wednesday. But that didn’t happen. Always have to keep it real.
Today is Thursday and it’s a new day. I decided to run by the seaport area of Boston. Running near water is one of my happy( happiest) of spots. I ran towards Castle Island taking in the sun because it was 60 degrees at 5:45a.m.- dying.
A couple of things happened in the 5.06 mile run today.
I stopped to take a selfie and some male runner ( without a shirt on) ran by me and said looking good.”
While running a Latinx man smiled at me and gave me a thumbs up. I was touched.
Then there was man number #3. I ran by a bus and the bus driver, an African-Amerincan man, opened his bus door said something to me. I didn’t hear him. When I ran by the bus, he smiled and said good job, keep going.
I was so touched and his words meant so much. Especially now words and meaning are so layered and it touched my heart. . I had to stop and just let my tears flow.
Running around the island, I saw two black women and we smiled deeply at each other. No words need to be said.
Running is taking on new meaning now.
