Humpday 8.53 miler

Humpday 8.53 miler

COVID-19, “ The Rona Era.”

This is the last Wednesday of August. I think it’s time to run 10 miles. I’m ready for double ditgits. I don’t know if my body is ready for it but I need to test it out. Plus later today, I have a pelvic PT appointment. I wanted to see where I am and I can report back to the doctor today. The last couple of weeks have been good. I’ve been doing my exercises and running isn’t as bad as it was before. I’m not 100% but I’m not in a lot of pain. It’s more of a pelvic ache.

I want to run a half marathon in another state. It’s been over a year and I just want to run in one state before the end of the year. This is a way to also gauge where I am.

Since today is going to be the start of the heat wave, I knew I needed to run early in the morning . I left my house at 5:15a.m. to drive to Castle Island. I ran run around the water and be cool. I knew that my run could be an “easy” 10 miler.

I drove and parked my car by Lawn D, next to the convention center. That way I’m forced to run to Castle Island and Carson Beach. I took the time this morning to really stretch. I couldn’t get over how dark it was. It wasn’t fully light but the sun was on it’s way.

Already it was 78 degrees. I told myself go slow and steady.

I knew a lot of people would be out this morning before 5:30a.m and I right. Castle Island is in a location that boarders south Boston and Dorchester. Depending on the time of time you can see a mixture of people. This morning I saw six African-American folks walking. There were Asian American folks, older men and women walking and some claiming their beach spot. And runners and runners were running everywhere.

I had 10 miles on my mind. Running along the Castle Island bowl, I saw the moon and the sun. The moon was high in the sky, about to leave and the sun was on the otherside as she slowly started to come up. And I was in the middle of seeing them both. Was I a morning runner or a night runner?

I had to stop, take in the moment, and a picture of course.

Reaching mile 5 took me to Carson Beach and close to the dorms at UMass Boston. By this time, it was getting hotter and the moon was gone. I was angry at myself for not wearing a hat or having sun glasses.

I felt myself feeling the tightness in my pelvic area. It wasn’t bad but I could feel it. Stopping for 30 seconds and walking helped before I resumed running again.

I even saw my stalkers again. They clearly like to hang out and dominate themselves on Carson Beach. So noted.

At 5 miles, I turned around to head back to my car. Somehow I miscalculated. When I reached my car it was 8.53 miles. By this time it was 7:15a.m. and to be honest I was tired to continue for two miles more.

When I stopped, I felt it all….the pelvic pain. What seemed mild before was irritated and probably inflamed. Now I know what happens around eight miles. I checked my tracker and something happened. I had the time but no miles… Ugh. Whatever. I know what I did.

1:33:54 on 8/25- 8.53 miles ; 1:30:6 on 8/20- 8.20 miles.

Temperature makes a difference as well.
