5k Turkey Trot

COVID-19, “ The Rona Era

Today is the 10th annual Franklin Park Turkey Trot. This year the BGR girl gang decided to dress up as Mrs.Incredible for our costume. Since Katonya my co-ambassador was out of town, I was in charge of the per-tailgating festivities in the parking lot. I had the table, snacks, speakers, and BGR informational swag.

This morning started off a bit nippy, 38 degrees. As the morning went on, it got warmer and layers came off. We had a blast in the parking lot. On of our members got us going with a warm up exercise. We had music going and a mini dance party. It was so great to see the ladies and even some new ladies. We had a team of over 20 who signed up. I think about a good 15 came. We still represented.

This year, there were 1700 who came for the 5k. This is a family friendly race, so everybody- runs/walks. Kids, folks with dogs, kids in strollers, it’s a whole scene.

It had been a while since I ran in Franklin Park. I wanted to see how I would do. 3.19 miles at 10:00ml/pace with a moving time of 31:58. I even had a couple of walking strides between the run.

What a noticed, this year was the whiteness of the race. In years past there have been more black and brown folks. This is the first race post pandemic and I wonder if that has anything to do with it? I made a note of that.

It was a great day for a run. Unfortunately, this year we didn’t win the best group costume, which I think was rigged. But we know we won away.

Great way to start Thanksgiving Day
