15 or 16 miles for Long run Saturday

15 or 16 miles for Long run Saturday

Covid-19, “The Rona Era”

Last Saturday it was negative degrees and this Saturday the temperature is in the 40s. What a difference a week makes. Since it was in the negatives last Saturday, my long run was on Sunday. And Sunday the temperature was in the 40s. I’m glad Global warming doesn’t exist. Today, I’m back on my long run Saturday schedule. I know my 10 mile route that I run on the Boston Marathon course. The plan was to run two extra miles towards Wellesley and back before finishing at the 20 mile marker.

The first hiccup, was not missing my turns to get to Heartbreakers Running Co at mile 20. I was leaving from the Iowan’s house instead of my own. I was planning on parking by 6:20am. Because of my hiccups, I arrived at 6:45a.m. At least by this time, there was light, so no headlight needed.

As I started on my run, I felt good until the period cramps kicked my ass around mile 1. I was just getting started. It wasn’t pretty. Around mile 2, they went away. But damn. What I noticed as I was running up hills around Boston College and heading towards Newton Center, I felt good and strong.

Track Tuesday, acupuncture, strength training, and doing lots of running is paying off. I would stop because I got bored with the route. My legs, hips, and thighs, were doing good.

Hiccup #2, I miss counted my mileage. I think I ran 16 miles. I ran to the mile 15 mile marker and at that point I might have run almost 12 miles. Oh Well.

Hiccup #3, being sweaty my Strava wasn’t working. It would pause or stay stuck. I got wise to take a screen shot of my mileages. It froze three times. I not even sure of how long it took me.

The high of the day, was running is beautiful weather. I didn’t have to be super layered. As the morning got longer, I saw more runners running. They run in packs.

When I got to the firehouse, I thanked and chatted with one of the firemen pouring water. He told me that his friend had run big sur and it was hilly.- Joyous. I also ran into the CEO of the BAA on the route.

I kept on running. I appreciate the volunteers and the water and fuel stations along the way- life saver. I even ran into my sole sista Nat who is training for Chicago and Providence Marathon on the course.

As I got closer to mile 20, I saw coach Dan and the Heartbreakers running crew. I’m seeing my peoples.

On and aside, in 15 or 16 miles I saw 4 black women running( including myself) and two black men running.

I have lots of thoughts about that.

I did my first long run. I packed my fuel vest very well.
