Last Saturday in September

COVID-19, “The Rona Era”

Everyone who is on a running plan, keeps telling me that today,Saturday is an 8 miler run. By Everyone, I mean all those folks that are training for Chicago( which is next week) and people that are keeping in Marathon ready shape. Why do I listen to these people. :). I have a half marathon in November that I need to get my body ready for.

Anywho, the plan for this morning was 8 miles with KB, my co-ambassador and Janelle who is off to Chicago next week. Also today, the last REI club run was happening. If we didn’t get our 8 miles in, we could still run with the group. Lots of running on a Saturday.

I met KB and Janelle near the REI store by Fenway. Since they didn’t know the area, I was the one who mapped out our route. What that meant was running until we came to 8 miles. No logic to my plan.

We made a right on Beacon street, which is part of the Boston Marathon Route. Then right on Commonwealth Ave. Then left on Massachusetts Ave. Turning left on Mass Ave, put us on the Boston 10k for women route. We went over the bridge and crossed in Cambridge and MIT. We made a right, once we went over the bridge.

I will say that I was keeping pace. Being a pacer really does help. My pace was around a 10:30/10:50. I was holding it steady. I was tired or felt the need to stop. I just keep going. I felt strong and good. I would check to make sure KB and Janelle were close by. I did not want to loose them.

KB, told me it was a long run and I should go slower. Janelle thought the pace was fine. I kept my pace steady. We passed the Museum of Science and ran along the esplanade. Around 7:20 a.m. when we started running, we saw the runners out and about. Today, there was a 5k race going on. The esplanade was busy. There might have been some tourist. I saw people walking around with maps.

When we got back to REI, we ran 6 miles. Crap! Another 2 to go. I would have preferred to keep running. But stopped because run club started at 9a.m. I finished my two miles out and back with the club.

We got lucky that it didn’t rain and it was cool out. Good running weather. 8.14 miles in the books.

By September, it’s been real.
