Track Tuesday before Mob Mile Thursday

Track Tuesday before Mob Mile Thursday

ERA of WTF

Today we tapered for Mob mile on Thursday. This was an “ easy” run since we have been training all summer for the Mob Mile. Well, I haven’t been training. I don’t think I’ve run more than a 5k. My week mileage this summer is 8-10 miles, if that. That’s ok. I know I can run a mile.

Today’s workout was 1000m- which is 2 laps and a half around the track. 2 minute cool down and then two 200s with 2 minute cool down in between. The 1000m was at a 10k pace. We should finish around 5:54, which makes sense. Of course we finished at 5:48 a bit speedy. I know.

Because of the tapering workout, there were not as many folks on the track. August is a rotating vacation month for many people. It was good.

Mob Mile

We are running a mile under the lights. Usually I’m in the first heat. Coach Dan gave us 20 bibs. Then I posted the weblink that BGR could registrar for free. I mention, posted, re-posted. And yet, there is always someone of didn’t see the information. One of our members paid, then registered for free. She has two bibs. She is able to give one of the bibs away. Another member tried to sign up when the information closed. Coach Dan added her to the team. I gave him my email address because I did not know hers. It will be interesting to see if 20 BGR ladies show up. I’m all set.

Side note: After doing the workout, because it was so short, Coach Dan ran with us. We were receiving Coaching while running. Talk about VIP treatment. We jogged the curbs and ran the straight aways. He was there with us. I felt good but also a little pressure. I wanted him to know, I am a good pacer. He knows it, I know. I realized that I am not in good “ training shape”. After once a round with jogging the curves and running the straights, this girl was tired. I think I was pushing and going beyond my normal pace. I was trying to show off to coach. And that’s what I get…..tired. :).

After all I was done, I talked with a couple of ladies that are going to Sydney and Berlin to get a star for the majors. One of the ladies Chris, and I talked about the money, power, and eliteness of the “ world majors”. She ran Sydney last year, when they were considering for the majors. The Abbott folks who sponsor the majors, told the people that ran Sydney, they would have to do it again because it did not count. Did they get a discount or free entry to run the ran when it was “ officially” a major race…No. They have to do it all again. And many are. You can not tell me how elite and expensive this kind of recreational running is. I think it is crazy. There are still no races on the continent of South America or Africa. Three of the major races are in the US. Not even Canada or Mexico. Two are in Europe. One is in Japan. I have questions about how they select, monies invested, policies, etc about this process.

That is another part of my research around running to work on. The power of the race..
