Mob Mile 2025

Mob Mile 2025

ERA of WTR…………..staying ready and still finding joy “ resistant “

Thursday was Mob Mile! I started off the morning with a 2 mile run around Horn Pond, trying to get ready. By 5:30pm I parked on Memorial Drive to get myself ready for Mob Mile. In my bag I had 3 shirts and 3 bibs. One for me and two BGR members. Low and behold, one of the members, who I had to make sure she was registered, told me at the last minute that work was keeping her late and she couldn’t come. Actually, that worked out because I could give her bib away to someone who needed it.

I thought the walking from Memorial Drive would be a good warm up. When I got to MIT track, I saw some BGR ladies, Pioneers, Heartbreak run crew. Later Captain Jeff from BMR showed up. I could feel the vibe. There was a DJ, shoes on display to wear, massage station was getting ready, the Red Bull folks had their drinks to give away, it was going down. Then…….a sprinkle, two sprinkles, a light fall of rain, then, the torrential down pour bust happened. Heard some lightening . At first, we saw a dark cloud, but you could still see blue skies and light in some of the pockets in the sky. When the downpours came, everything was dark.

I ended under the read bull umbrella tent with the senior BU college rep, captain Jeff, and Sara, who is one of the pacers. At first this was going to be a quick 8 minute shower. It moved to an 18 minute shower. People took cover by the bathrooms and by the bleachers. The fun display of race materials were all collected and gone from sight.

We just had to wait it out. When we did, a double rainbow was our surprise treat. The clouds, were red, blue, pink, and white. Nature painted the sky beautifully. No camera filter needed. Of course we had a delay. Heat 1, my run didn’t start until 7:15. I didn’t have time to fully stretch because I was running my mouth, hugging people, and thinking about the 4 laps we have to do.

Heat one steps up the tone for the rest of the heats. I finished mine in 9:02a.m. Everyone told me I looked strong. There was something energizing running the straight away on the track and seeing and hearing people cheer you on along the way. I will not lay, this girl was tired. I wanted to walk a bit. I knew I couldn’t do that. I had to keep pushing through.

And I did. Joy, joy, and joy. Then I got to see everyone else run and take my pictures. The rain did not delay us too bad. We all whooped it up at the after party with our two free drink tickets.

I’ll tell you what. Runners know how to party. But I will give mass credit to us Gen Xers because we know how to throw down and we don’t give a damn. We had the best time. Dancing, socializing, drinking. It truly was a Thirsty Thursday kind of night. Because we are X’ers that are amazing, I got extra drink tickets because we kept the party going. I love that my BGR ladies came out and had a blast too. This was a perfect Mob Mile Thursday
