Last Friday of August morning run 2025

ERA of WTF…resistance and joy

For a quick second I thought my square space had deleted a post. I realized that I did not run on Wednesday, because I wanted to rest my knee and Thursday, I left the Iowan in the morning to go to campus because I had meetings and wanted to work on my syllabus and class prep. I did not run or really do any moving - steps in 2 days. I tried to walk around campus a bit. Truth be told, I did do a lot of moving. I’m being mindful about what I put in my body- food/drinks to the ratio of movement for the day. I’m not getting crazy about it. Thinking more about being 51, movement, calorie deficit, weight management, and staying healthy.

Today, Friday, I need to move, I need to run a bit. My knee still feels wonky but I had to move her. I went for a run, walk from my house to Constitution Beach. Which is a 3 or 4 mile toward- out and back. I did not have my watch on me. I didn’t know my miles, time, pace, nothing. That is ok. Just to move, and have the morning to myself to get going is all I needed.

Not sure what happened or what is up with my knee. My body felt strong but the right leg is not 100%. I did put on a knee compression sleeve all day yesterday. I’m not sure if that did anything.

I did see the sunrise and felt the late summer coolness in the air. That was good. People were out running this morning on the Greenway connector. The connector is behind the Blue Line T station. Trains, marshes, and planes( you can see the airport) is what you go pass until you reach the beach.

Besides that, it has been a busy week. The US open has started and gendered racism is making the news. That man in office, thinks Americans want a dictatorship, and the Secretary of Health wants to make vaccines illegal. Several people in the CDC have quit. Literally this administration is trying to kill everybody. For 45 minutes of my run, I didn’t think about it or try to come up with a plan. I was in my head space.

On a happy point of joy. Several of our BGR ladies are running the inaugural Sydney marathon. There is a good representation of black and folks down there. Out of the 30,000-50,000 runners , I’m sure we are around 200, maybe 300. By inaugural, I mean, this race is now apart of the Abbott majors. The race is 25 years old. By having this extra title, this little nugget. Now people are flocking to Sydney and spending $5000 to $10000 for this elite experience and a gain a 7th star. So many thoughts.

Overall good morning, good run.
