Era of WTF………………..joy and resistance
The Last Track Tuesday (Outdoors, Anyway)
This is it! The last Track Tuesday of the year, and the last outdoor one. We started back in June when it was hot and bright. Real bright. Now we end in the dark, cold, and windy. A lot has happened in between. My pacing has improved a bit, we added a new person, Jill, to Team Red, and one of our pacer couples is about to become parents. Oh, and my book came out! Black Woman Runner is here. Huge thanks to Coach Dan for putting it front and center on the Heartbreak webpage. I so appreciate and respect that.
Today was 8 x 200s, and it was the perfect way to close out the season, because last night I had my inaugural book talk. Coach Dan and about 50 running friends and BGR Sole Sistas showed up to support me. My brother Jeff from BMR led the discussion, and my co-ambassador KB handled security and refreshments. I wasn't prepared to see everyone and hear how excited they were and how much they enjoyed the book. It warmed my heart. This has been a long road coming.
Monday night was late and joyful, and I still rolled up early on Tuesday for Track Tuesday. I wanted this space to say my goodbyes before we do it all again next year, indoors at the Reggie.
I've made good friends and connections here, and this group has helped my running and kept me honest, especially now that I'm not running as much. This academic year has been kicking my ass. We're six weeks in and I'm still looking for my groove with the kids.
The cold and the two-mile workout kept a lot of our regulars away, so I didn't get to say goodbye to everyone. It's also Chicago Marathon week, so folks were either getting ready or already on their way to Chicago. And then there's Hyrox, which I still don't fully understand.
Over these months I also ran a couple of half marathons, and it felt good. As long as I'm able, I want to keep building my pacer skills.
It was a good last day.
