First Track Tuesday of Black History Month
ERA of WTF……………………………resistance and joy
We are in Black History Month—this year marks the 100th anniversary of its celebration. This month honors American history and the stories of a people too often excluded. It highlights the narratives, struggles, and achievements that we rarely hear but urgently need to learn from.
In an era where history is being erased—whether through changing language, removing artifacts, or rewriting museum stories—celebrating Black History Month feels even more essential. Recently, the president ordered the removal of information about slavery from exhibits about the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. Similarly, attempts have been made to alter the language around Medgar Evers, downplaying the fact that he was murdered by a white supremacist and left in a pool of his own blood.
I celebrate Black History Month. And I do it today, on Track Tuesday at the Reggie Lewis Center in the heart of Roxbury, Massachusetts—a place and space of Blackness, at the geographical center of the city. Unfortunately, Roxbury is facing gentrification, which makes awareness and understanding of this space even more important.
As always, I had a great time with my crew for Track Tuesday.
