ERA of……WTF……Joy and Resistance

I did not sleep well last night. Not sure why. Maybe because this month is almost over and I feel like I haven't fully slowed down. Nevertheless, it's Friday.

I didn't go to strength training class at the Y because I wasn't feeling it — but I made sure to get my ass up and go running. The one day I actually wanted to run, my Garmin watch was dead and it was raining. A soft sprinkling. But I got up anyway.

I ran in my hood. I have a pretty good gauge on the route — somewhere between 3 and 4 miles, a loop I've done many times. At 6:05 a.m., I was out the door.

The first thing I saw was a marker left by the Scottish invasion. The Scots — over 20,000 of them — are in Boston. They've been making news because they're drinking bars dry. In a few cases, completely out of alcohol. Even my nephew in Iowa sent me a news link to make sure I knew. Everywhere they go, they put a cone on top of a statue or monument. It's a whole thing.

I saw that and kept moving — running along the East Boston Greenway around the Hyatt hotel, then through spots I haven't hit in a while: the Marina, Piers Park, and more of the Greenway. The gentle rain started getting a little heavier. I didn't have a ball cap, but it's rain. I'm not that delicate.

I was doing interval running and my body felt good. One thing I regret: not stopping to talk to the group of runners I passed on my way back home. I think they're part of the East Boston Running group out of the Y — they usually run at 7 a.m. I should have asked. Next time.

Since I didn't have my Garmin, I relied on my phone — heart rate and steps told me I did over 7,000 steps, which is definitely over 3 miles. Still moving and grooving. I got this body out on the pavement on the last Friday of June.
