Day after the 4th
ERA of……WTF…….joy and resistance
Today, the day after the Fourth of July, was wonderfully quiet. I didn't watch any fireworks last night or go out to celebrate. This girl was tired and simply wasn't interested.
With almost no traffic at 6 a.m., I decided to drive to the Seaport and go for a run along Boston Harbor. I wanted to take it all in while the city was still cool and peaceful. As a bonus, parking was easy.
I ended up creating my own America tour celebration. During my run, I passed through the Greenway and saw two public art installations by women of color. I also ran by the Transatlantic Slave Trade Memorial and the Boston Tea Party site.
There are so many layers, contradictions, and complexities to this country. Understanding the full mosaic gives us a deeper appreciation of who we are and how we got here.
It was a beautiful way to celebrate—a quiet 5K of exploration through Boston, reflecting on its history and the many stories it holds.
