First Track Tuesday of July
ERA of WTF… Joy and Resistance
Well, the Fourth of July shenanigans are over. We're in July now, which to the academic person means three more weeks until switching back to school mode — and lady summer will be over. At least that's how I see it.
This was the first Track Tuesday of July. Of course, on this day, it's cold and rainy. It's just wet. Either I'm going to be wet from sweat because it's hot AF, like last week when temps were in the 90s, or it's going to be rainy, muggy, and a bit cool, and I'm going to be wet anyway. I prefer the latter.
Here we are.
As expected, the ladies who said they were coming to the Firecracker Run didn't show up — except for one, because of the weather. As a pacer, I was there. To be honest, if I wasn't pacing, I wouldn't have shown up either.
We had a small but mighty group. Runners run in all kinds of weather — rain, snow, heat, cold. They show up. It was a good thing the track workout wasn't too crazy: 1000m at 10K pace, 2x500m at 5K pace, 200m at mile pace, 400m at 5K pace, 200m at mile pace, with a 90-second break in between. Red team was on it.
The rain stayed slow and steady the whole time we ran. We had to stay mindful of the puddles and debris on the slippery track — God knows I wasn't trying to slip and fall, and I didn't want anyone else to either. But it was good. It felt a little like playing in the rain. What adult gets to play in the rain? We did.
