First 20 miles
I am not a smart runner. Friday night I had drinks, bottles with a friend and ran on Saturday. Saturday, I meet up with a friend and we had our “ regular”. I was good and we finished two bottles together and I stopped there because I had to run 20 miles today.
This morning run was a struggle. I meant to get up at 4a.m. to run because I wanted to go to 9am mass. That didn’t happen. I left my house at 5:20a.m. instead. I knew I wouldn’t make the 9a.m. mass today. My thoughts, to run 20 miles will take between 3- 3 and 1/2 hours to do it. I was correct. It took me 3:30 to run 20 miles.
It was a hard 20 miles because my nutrition just sucked. I got extremely tired and I didn’t pack enough energy or gels to keep my going. My water frozen and I didn’t bring enough water. I was super thirsty and had no way to get hydrated. When I was running along the beach I kept running to the water fountains, hoping to get water. NOPE. They were all turned off. That didn’t stop me from trying each one that I passed.
My pace time went from a 9:40 to 10:30 to 11:20 I didn’t have enough fuel to keep going. UGH!
This can not happen again!!! My legs felt fine and I have new shoes which made the run feel good. It was a struggle.
