BRA Run

BRA Run

COVID-19, “The Rona Era”

After three days of rain, it is finally nice out. Today is the perfect day for TrailBlazher’s Bra Run. Katonya and I met the co-founders of TrailBlazher’s last year. We did a panel for the B.A. A. virtual expo together. These younger, black women started their running group around body positivity, mental health , social justice, and inclusion. It’s only been a year, since they organized their running group and it has taken off. They were even featured on Runner’s World. So proud of these women.

About 10 BGR members signed up to be apart of their run. It was a four mile run in South Boston. To see different body sizes, running abilities, hair and skin tones just made me beyond happy. My partner in crime Liz showed up to be apart of this amazing community.

We all meet at this warehouse/cycling studio. It was huge. In the space, the ladies, had a registration table, a DJ, a shopping area, and a free Puma Sports Bra. Over 200 women showed up.

This was also my first time running with a mass of folks post surgery. I ran on Saturday with the Road To Wellness 5k training crew. Really that was my first. I was learning how to run again. Today, with the encouragement of Liz and Katonya, I ran 4 miles street. Thou, in hind sight that was very stupid. From not running for 6 weeks to running 4 miles in the humidity with this groin pain annoyance was not smart.

I appreciate in this amazing Warehouse, there were free PT massages you could get pre run. That is what the doctor ordered. I will make sure come Monday a.m. to call around for appointments.

We ran from C street to Carson Beach. It was an out and back route. The ladies of TrailBlazher’s had a videographer, a photographer, and pacers with music to keep all the ladies motivated while we ran with our Sport Bras on.

The half way mark was Carson Beach and a Volunteer had bottled water in a cooler for us. I was annoyed when some random woman with her dog, took it upon herself to let her dog drink in the ice cold water in the cooler. The issue…..Women would grab the ice cubes and put on their bodies to cool off. I knew a dog had been licking his juices all up in that. YUCK.

We paused to get a picture and check on the ladies that were still running/ walking. After that, we went back to running. Oh and we had bike escorts as well with music going.

All in all, such an amazing day. Afterwards, my partner in crime and I went to local bar for a couple of post race cocktails.
