Last day of Run before Radiate

Last day of Run before Radiate

COVID-19, “The Rona Era”

It’s Friday and perfect weather. Perfect weather means no rain, cool, and not suffocating heat. Today is also the last day of radiation. 3 1/2 weeks of radiation is over. After today, I will be able to get up and just run. I won’t have to worry about getting ready to go to radiation. For now, today is the last day. To honor the day, I want to run a 10k on the beach. When I arrived on the beach at 5:45a.m. I was greeted by the sun rising and the prep staff getting ready for the international sand sculpture festival this weekend. I didn’t know that was happening. I believe last year it was canceled because of COVID-19. This year it is happening with extra precaution, mask, and sanitizer stations.

I took a moment to stretch and watch the sun come up. I told myself no need to rush. I wanted to be still for a bit and enjoy this. After a couple minutes it was time to run.

At 6 a.m. there was so much activity on the beach. The walkers, runners, workout classes, construction workers, crews setting up the festivities for the sand sculptures this weekend. I kept on running. Oddly, my left leg felt weird, not my groin “ annoyance.” Of course my thought was WTF. I thought if I kept on running it would go away. It did. Luckily, I’m going to PT on Monday and I will mention this to the therapist.

The morning was so cool. The stalkers were very chill this morning on the beach. What made me laugh was seeing on the planes going into Logan airport. Clearly, they were not Spirit Airlines. I counted five planes flying into the airport before 6:30 a.m. - Just saying.

I thought I could do 7 miles this morning. I didn’t I did 6. Actually I did a 10k twice this week. Still making progress and doing good. Proud all the way.

I did get tired around 5.16 miles. I need to work on the nutrition. I can and will run 7 miles next week without being rushed- Yeah!

The key throughout the 3 1/2 weeks of radiation: run, hydrate, moisturize, write, think, nap, and have drinks while socializing with awesome friends.
