26 True and Black Unicorn Marathon Celebration

26 True and Black Unicorn Marathon Celebration

COVID-19, “The Rona Era”

Boston Marathon Weekend festivities are underway. Saturday is super busy. For me, this is running day is about supporting my running community, my running communities of color. Running is still a white space, especially here in Boston. This year over 30,000 will be running the marathon. In a sea of whiteness, it will be hard to find and celebrate the black and brown community of runners. Since the BAA doesn’t look at racial dynamics, I’m going to assume maybe 100-200 of those runners are black. If 1% of people have run marathons, we are the minority within the minority.

Today, Pionneer run crew is doing their marathon 26.True. This marathon runs in the city of Boston because the Boston Marathon does not. This is year 3 of this marathon. BGR and BMR were asked to be support at Cheer Station #2. How could I say no to that. 75 people signed up to run this true Boston Marathon.

I love our community of runners. That was stop #1

Stop #2 today was attending the Black Unicorn Celebration at the Reggie. The geographical center of Boston and the heart and history of the Black Community. This is year 9 of the celebration. This is when we can see, celebrate, and network with other black runners from around the country and the world. Just seeing us in this space, I’m in awe because they can get lost when there are over 30,000 folks running.

This is a great kick off to Marathon weekend.
