Following the lights

ERA of ….WTF…….joy and resistance

It’s not even 7 a.m. yet, and it’s 44 degrees outside. I checked—still winter. I’ll take what I can get until winter gets its full act together. I know I have to get out, run, and move this morning. With the semester about to start, I’ll be in my office working all day long. Mornings are my time for movement.

It doesn’t help that this is day two of my period, and this girl is tired. I don’t have the privilege of sleeping in and doing nothing today.

Getting some good rest and having a warmer morning helped with the motivation. My body—my legs—are feeling good. I wore my headlamp and ran. It’s been a while since I’ve run through Pier’s Park and along the waterfront. There were other runners out this morning, before the sun had even risen.

I put on the interval timer and just kept moving. I acknowledge that my period makes me feel heavier and slower, but I kept going anyway. It was a beautiful morning—just the perfect blend of quiet and the awakening of people, cars, and buses. I even had a chance to call my friend B and check in, something I haven’t had time to do lately.
