Thursday's 5 mile Goal

Thursday's 5 mile Goal

ERA of ………..WTF………..joy and resistance

This is officially week 1 of 12 weeks of training for the Good Life Halfsy half marathon. I know I need to increase my mileage. On deck is 18 miles for the week. I'm glad I have track Tuesday as my baseline, but I need to start increasing the miles.

Today, the plan called for 5 miles. I can do that. I thought I'd run in my neighborhood before I had to work. I was out the door by 5:45 a.m. It wasn't fully light yet — I remember by 5 a.m. it was so bright.

In the quiet of the morning, I got to see the sunrise and the beautiful colors of the morning sky along the water and city skyline. Running through the shipyard, I not only have water views but also cool pieces of art to see along the way.

My path took me through the shipyard to Piers Park, then to the Greenway. My run felt strong and I felt good. Then I realized that today is street cleaning day — and I was parked on the side of the street that was about to get cleaned. SHIT! I had to move my car. I got my 5 miles off at 4.73 miles.

Part of urban living is having to move your car early so you can find another spot to park. I was not about to play the drive-around-for-45-minutes game. Long story short, I found out that because of all the road construction, no one was going to get ticketed or towed this Thursday anyway.

58.63 minutes, 4.73 miles
