Birthday Run!! Hello 47

COVID-19, “ The Rona Era”

All of the birthday songs are in my head this morning. “ Go, go, go, go, go, go
Go, shorty
It's your birthday
We gon' party like it's your birthday
We gon' sip Bacardi like it's your birthday
And you know we don't give a fuck it's not your birthday” 50 cents

or my favorite “ or “Birthday, it's your birthday
If I die, bury me inside the Louis store (Ha, uh)
Uh

They ask me what I do and who I do it for (Yeah)
And how I come up with this shit up in the studio (Yeah)
All I want for my birthday is a big booty hoe (True)

And the classic, Stevie Wonder and “ Happy birthday to you, Happy Birthday.

All of the birthday songs are in my head for a Friday birthday celebration. I signed up to run a virtual 5k. This is the Eugene Marathon, 5k. Orgeon, would have been my state #47 last year but COVID happened. I’m not a fan of virtual races but a 5k to get me in the spirit would do. Since 2014, I’ve always ran a half marathon on my birthday or close to it. I just couldn’t let another year go by without running a race.

My plan to break in this newly minted 47 year old body was to run a 5k and then run 4.74 miles. Play on the numbers, vintage 1974 and being 47. I’m so cleaver. I knew running around the Charles Esplanade would be 7 miles. It would be a loop, no out and back.

That was my plan. When I added up my miles for the month of April, I had 79 miles of hitting the pavement. That was more than I thought. My longest run in the pandemic was 10 miles when I was a pacer for Katonya as she ran the virtual Boston half marathon in October.

This year with the lumpectomy, reinsertion, MRI, and biopsy, I haven’t been in my normal full running mode. I could do 7.74 miles for today. While running, I felt strong and steady. My stalkers even wished me happy birthday along the Charles River. Since it was a nice morning, many people were out running. This morning, it was me, myself, and I doing our thing.

When I was finished, I was a ball of sweat but I felt great. I could have gone 8 miles, that how good I felt. My May goal is to run a 10miler before the next surgery.
