Run Club with Boston 10k for Women
Era of WTF
Shame on me. I realized that it has been over two months since I posted anything about my daily runs. I have been running here and there but I haven’t posted. As the saying goes, Life be Life-in. Near the end of May we had graduation, which is always crazy busy and exhausting. June was getting ready for our trip to Morocco and Portugal in July. And now it’s August.
My goal is to do better. Since the Fall 2025 academic year is around the corner, I will be running a lot more. This girls needs an outlet and joy to combat the overt racism and cruelty that is shaping our country.
Some happy highlights: Track Tuesday has started. It picked back on July 2nd. And of course I left on July 3rd. I did run a bit in Lisbon. My ass was not running in the 107, 114 degrees of Marrakesh. Though I did find out there is a Marrakesh half marathon and marathon in July.
Moving forward, what has August looked like so far? August 2nd, started the run club for Boston 10k for Women’s race. Since I am one of the ambassadors and BGR is a charity partner, I had to show my face. This year we are meeting in Charlestown instead of Fenway. In Charlestown at MyStyde, there is parking. That is a win! There are many different running routes we can take from this location. The old location, we would run an out and back to the Jamaican Way. There was no variety in the route we ran.
I was happy to see the other ambassadors - Crystal Rose, Lindsay, Melissa. About 25 ladies showed up for the group run. My ass did not know where we were running. All I knew, it was a 30 minute run, that was it.
Our 15 minutes out and back was an easy route. We ran towards the Charlestown ship yard. Today was a great day to run. After we got the ladies warmed up, we ran. Lindsay and I had a conversation about pacing. Who would be in the front, middle, and end. We wanted to our best to stick together. If anything, make sure none of the women were left alone.
The women ranged from 20-60s. 5 women , let us know this was their first 10k. It was a good group. I made sure to stay in the middle, which would be around a 11 minute mile- yeah for being a pacer with heartbreakers.
This was a different kind of running and pacing. We were not going around a track. I still had to hold my pace and make sure my knees did not give out on me. Slow, steady , strong equals fast. My mantra in my head.
Shame on me, I didn’t take any aleve But I managed. We made sure to check in with everyone as we ran and when we had to stop at the stop lights. Melissa, had music and was our running DJ.
What did we see? The Navy folks in their dressed whites, public art, people running and walking, and boats and boats.
The 30 minute run, I ran a little under a 5k- 2.85 miles. It was a good day.
